Fence for Rotational Grazing

This cost share project was located on a livestock farm which intersects with four critical areas: Wetlands, Critical Aquifer Recharge Areas, Fish and Wildlife Habitat Conservation Areas, and Frequently Flooded Areas. A VSP site visit involving GHCD staff was conducted with the landowner about his proposed fencing project.  The desired cross-fence would split the pasture in half so the landowner could rotationally graze his cattle between the two pastures. By constructing a cross-fence, the landowner would enhance the wetland area by restricting livestock access during the winter months. This fence would also enhance agricultural viability by improving pasture health through rotational grazing.

The landowner began construction on the project in June 2019 and completed the project in June 2019.
